Here’s something to help you relax and have some fun while you wait for the New Year. SuperTux 0.7 Beta 1, a free and open-source 2D side-scrolling game featuring Tux, the Linux penguin, as its main character, is here marking the project’s first major release in four years, following version 0.6.3 issued in December 2021.
This beta is actually one of the most extensive overhauls in the game’s history, rivaling the scope of the Milestone 2 era, with large parts of the game rebuilt from the ground up.
The most visible changes are the complete redesigns of World 1 and World 2, including the Rooted Forest. Levels have been rebuilt with new layouts, visual styles, and pacing. Across the game, nearly all core assets have been replaced, including new artwork for Tux, enemies, backgrounds, tilesets, and environmental elements.

It is wild to me that SuperTux has been going for 22 years and still hasn’t hit 1.0.
They started this project the same year Double Dash, Vice City, and Call of Duty came out.
I don’t really mean that as an insult, by the way - it’s just kinda crazy that this 2D platformer project is still going and, apparently, still not done.
I’m pretty sure releasing a 1.0 of your project is against the terms of all open source licenses.
It’s pretty funny I didn’t even realise this game was a platformer despite it being around for so long because SuperTuxCart is almost the same name.
Even better, STK started after SuperTux and still released a v1.0 first - 6 years ago.
It’s apples to oranges really, but a funny comparison.
