I mean yeah. Trump could tomorrow make some idiotic statement about tariffs on American cloud services like aws. Seriously, who would be surprised?
Before Trump, nobody would even suggest to distance themselves from the USA. Now, everyone is thinking it.
Great job I guess, if you want a planet where countries are fighting eachother instead of working together. But Trump mentality is that he must be the winner, always. He cant understand that sometimes another country being winner also helps his own. He must be the winner.
He is the typical guy in the sandbox that takes the entire sandbox because its all about him.
Yeah. :) 100% tariffs on data transfers out of American Web Services…
Leta give it to Trump and Elon Musk, they will take good care of it… Lol.
Trump will isolate aws to America only, claiming other countries are ripping him off.
Aws becomes American Web Services.
Just ask people here, people just love anyone who switches over to Linux and want to learn about it. Because we actually love this operating system. Its so good.
When my kid started using Linux, once he knew how to start programs and install things, we went through where the files are on the file system and how to get there in a terminal. I think thats a good starting point so you understand the foundation of the system.
And then go though a basic Linux command line tutorial to learn about the common tools for listing files, filtering results, renaming and deleting files etc.
You can do that stuff in a graphical file manager too but you dont really get that understanding of how things work until you do it in the terminal.
Because its often correct.
Yeah but Trump and Musk are showing the worst behavior of humanity in front of the entire planet. That scene in idiocracy with the president could easily be Trump or Musk. So I dont know if its a joke anymore.
There is no attempt to be a good person, have any morals, any shame… In fact, its the opposite of those things that make money and creates infamous individuals that get all the attention.
So its logical to assume that this path will continue, where any attention is great because it makes money through ads connected to what people are watching.
Of course we could say that humanity should not pay attention to this. That worked while the people doing the bad things were just celebrities. Now we have presidents and billionaires doing those things. Its affecting everyone what they say or do.
I think its easy to get a general sense of dread from observing all this. Many feel like the world has gone crazy. But its more that these specific people are getting the attention, or rather, taking it.
Thats great but im not sure its very specific to bazzite. Ive been gaming on arch for many years and all games work, pretty much. :)
Have you tried to install apps from the arch AUR? Im curious if they follow the system theme and if they are found by the system launcher as ordinary apps. They are running in a container so i wonder if that makes them behave differently. Flatpaks can have the same issues.
People will be very surprised when they are wrong about this, and the IT field actually grows because of Ai.
Hang in there, I think you will be fine.
I think people just dont know how good it is. The apt system with fixed versions is super annoying compared to arch. I have never felt that i need to stay on some old version of software ever. Sure there has been a few times when some version is bugged and then I just stayed on a old version for a few weeks, which is very easy to do with pacman.
Im almost envious of you… I did that like 15 years ago and there is so many fun things to run and learn. So many desktop environments, tiling window managers, programming languages, ricing attempts…
I used arch almost all the time, with just a few times trying other distros to see what they are about. But nothing is as good as arch, mostly because of the AUR and its excellent docs.
Now bazzite is the new hot thing so could be fun to try that I guess, but dont want to remove my lovely arch.
Yes but this has accelerated it. I dont actually read anything anymore. I just ask chat gpt. In the end, it will make me dependent on it. And so many people will go that route, for different reasons.
Doing a web search now feels like wasting a lot of time when chat gpt has the answer already.
I think this is already changing everything. School system, education, learning, jobs, careers, etc.
Since its immutable, I imagine that a lot of apps may not “just work” and need special packaging or configuration. But I havent used it. What would you say? Apps just work or they need anything special? Will Flatpaks work?
I havent tried it but I cant see how it can be better than arch Linux with its AUR. Almost all software that exists is right there in its latest version.
Fedora feels a lot more limited. I think just because bazzite is novel, a lot of people are trying it now. I dont think the popularity will last. People will understand that they get many issues with it and go back to a normal Linux.
To me, my activity on my own computer being monitored by Microsoft is the only reason i need to not use it.
And I do actually think you may be slightly mad to be OK with that. Maybe because you feel you get a “free” operating system. I think thats the mentality of a slave.
Idiocracy was a documentary.
Thats not random sketchy websites though.
I would say Linux users who install software from the web knows what sites to trust. The beginners use the app store.
This thing changes versions faster than I can update my homelab… Lol.
Oh shit, what about the advertisers and the influencers, will they be ok? /s
Yeah 100%. I just dont know if Europe can compete. There is no real European cloud with hundreds of services, and Linux in the enterprise world is much harder to administer than windows. Microsoft is good at selling their enterprise stuff.
I think all of that is going to put Europe behind. But maybe its good to get started. Perhaps that will actually lead to an entire market for making Linux as good as windows in the enterprise.
