Thanks for the elaborated response :) Maybe I am overthinking it and searching for a charger when at x% SOC is quite enough, I have no experience with EVs

It is not Open Source and it is belongs to a subsidiary of Rivian. Not that Rivian is particularly bad or anything, but I am looking for a FOSS solution. ChargeMap is another contender, but also not open source
Maybe… I never used it before, but maybe eyeballing the distance by direct line is close enough for planning? I am not sure… Either way it is cumbersome…

Linux@programming.dev•Which distro for a non-technical windows user?
2·2 days agoI have never heard of it, but it fits right with my complaint with mint:
but I am not sure if it is different enough from the Windows look that one does not expect it to behave the same as Windows
Only that I am sure that it is not different enough from Windows 😅

3·2 days agoMint is fine-ish, but has caveats when looking for support online.
What are the caveats in your opinion?
I no longer recommend Ubuntu at all.
Because of snaps? Or because of something else?

3·2 days agoI don’t have any experience with atmoic distros, so I think it is too much of a risk for me 😅

7·7 days agoI’d love this, but I doubt that it is ever going to happen. Open-Source-Hardware is not as widely spread as open source software which is also still a niche. The big difference is that you can easily develop OSS on your own in your free time, but with hardware its a lot more difficult. And then think of all the parts necessary to build a car and then again all the certifications to actually get it on the street and after that the question of liability in case of accidents…

6·7 days agothe maintenance systems have been electronic based forever now though, haven’t they?
And I mean there comes the time when older just means cars from 2020… And I admit that I am not getting a car for which I’d have to be a mechanic to live with it…

18·7 days agoI’ve pulled the onstar system fuse which kills the telemetry and GPS+cell antenna
If that is possible in a european car that would be exactly what I’d want to do as well :D

33·7 days agoThat said, your phone shares all that data already, it being shared by another device is not really much different than coming from one source.
That is imo neither here or there. It is about the car. “Another device is also bad so its irrelevant” is just not a good response.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I live in Germany and I think the situation here is quite fine. Not perfect of course but fine
