As in, backup messages to import into new clients? Is that possible?

Not being prone to paranoia, as unhelpful as that is
I’m also a realist, which keeps my expectations in check.
Remember that you are one person. Nobody in government censorship or reconnaissance of the public cares about you enough to spy or hack you. You alone aren’t worth the effort or resources.
Remember to play. Go outside for a walk, meditate, consume entertaining non-toxic, non-fiction media, have sex or masturbate. All work and no play makes Ringpop a dull person.

Don’t forget that OMEMO on XMPP has no backward decryption - all messages are lost with every new client. Massive dealbreaker for me, as I value message history between those I love.
I’ve gone for Matrix. Signal doesn’t interest me until they get rid of the requirement for phone numbers.
Others have noted that XMPP servers hold user contacts (and maybe other parts) wholly unencrypted, and if the server isn’t yours, that’s a trust risk.

I use Nord for downloading videos, and it seems that YT have flagged every single Dutch and UK IP I try as a potential bot, restricting access completely without being logged in.
There also seems to be a huge issue where YouTube has recently delisted a significant amount of videos - and I don’t mean unlisted or private. I mean they just don’t exist through channels or yt-dlp any more. I think YT is killing creators

It’ll either not farm you because it’s illegal or it’ll kick you out. If the latter, good riddance really

I’m ruling nothing out until it’s proven irrelevant, however.

I appreciate the call for free speech, but ever since the hateful have upped their public image significantly I learned that minimal tolerance moderation of said hateful folk would make for a much healthier society. I’ve also heard Odysee has been filling up with AI slop. Maybe there should be a dedicated switch for the user to decide if they want to see AI gen content. If we can’t stop them, we can ignore them and close the door

I know some creators (Sam Time, Legal Eagle) that dual upload to Odysee as a failsafe for YouTube’s inevitable censorship, and Odysee being a decentralised space that prioritises freedom of speech means I see it as a good alternative, or stepping stone to Peertube.
Back in the day creators had their own blog websites for folk to access and subscribe. I believe this fragmentation is the best solution when aggregating sites like YouTube and Dailymotion become hostile.

I was referring less to myself not reaching out, and more to the unlikelihood of any responses. I am absolutely messaging creators who I see have a significant disparity between published and indexed videos.

Save getting answers from the creators themselves, best I can do is keep collating data. Some of the affected channels’ videos have no harmful content and millions of views per… But I don’t fully know yet.

Iirc advertising is 90% of their substantial income.
I am seeing more rules and system changes hurt creators, and more creators quit, complain about it, and/or actively recommend adblockers and Patreon donations.

Of my KP105 and KP115 plugs, only one has misbehaved, only once when their server was unreachable. The main culprit is the Kasa 303 I think it’s called? The 3-outlet adapter.
They are great devices! But I’m waiting for a Zigbee or Matter alternative with energy monitoring so these can be swapped out
Lyra_Lycan@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Privacy@lemmy.ml•TP Link Router wants to share client info with third partiesEnglish0·21 days agoWell, TP Link have never been trustworthy. Cheap and trustworthy rarely exist together.
I have the best smart plugs I could acquire - Kasa brand. They’re great adapters, but the moment their API call doesn’t get a response from their servers, they restart themselves every ten minutes. We all have to make some sacrifices in the journey to net security and independence, and keeping their API unblocked is one of mine.
If anyone wants smart plugs for monitoring purposes the Kasa brand is operable without the TP-Link app. Tapo is far worse. Never go full Tapo.
Lyra_Lycan@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Spotify ModEnglish0·21 days agoI second this, particularly slskd, Navidrome and Beets for the server, Symfonium for the client. Lidarr and Tubifarry would be nice to grab new releases but it’s not functioning very well.
Industry-wise, seriously just use Tidal, it’s cheaper by way of better value. Tidal has had CD quality (24bit 44.1kHz, 1411kbps) as a base and 320kbps mp3 minimum since before Spotify started promising they’ll add HiRes soon while offering 320kbps as a maximum.
The only reason someone would prefer Spotify is its partnership with three mainstream smart speaker brands, whereas Tidal is partnered with just one, Sonos. Bluesound too, but that’s more niche
I can recommend Beets for tagging, with the Lyrics plugin. Perfect for my Navidrome server and synced lyrics work perfectly on Symfonium
