I’m pretty familiar. I think you’re more referring to modern CAN bus systems that record everything under the sun. Basic ECUs from back in the 80s just didn’t do as much. Even my ‘12 only has OBD2 and the data collection is limited. I have so e fairly advanced diagnostic equipment to read all this stuff. The only thing I can’t do is program it, but I’ll be doing that soon enough.
Depends on the car. Most older cars are concerned with basic OBD stuff, faults, and engine management. I have a 2012 and it doesn’t record anything interesting at all. Just engine data. You are right though, a few do save data, I just don’t know which ones, what year they start, and the depth of data recorded. The ‘70’s still had most cars running a regular analog mechanical system or maybe an electronic ignition controlled by an ECU. The ECUs most similar to today’s started becoming more common in the ‘80s.
It’s a little less about reading what you’re saying or looking at on your phone, it’s mostly about tracking where your phone goes and figuring out who you are that way.

Conservatives have taken up everything they claimed to hate 25 years ago. Go bomb dictators because the dictators are oppressive? Now they want their own dictator. Talk about how women and other segments of society in that country are oppressed? Now they oppress women and other minorities. Hate government spending? Proceed to piss money away at levels never seen before. Rail against government interference in private business? Proceed to meddle with and claim they will tell businesses how to behave. Etc. etc.

Pretty much a default that religion, given the opportunity, will seek to push its rules and values on others. Doesn’t matter if it’s a medicine man or someone sitting on the local school board. I don’t have a problem with religious people in principle either, the problem is that even if you do meet a decent couple of people who appear to keep their religion to themselves there’s hundreds of thousands in their “club” that are going to fuck with things. Kinda like being in the republican party - even if they’re decent people, aren’t bootlickers, aren’t homophobes, etc… they still vote for, support, and associate with a group that does a lot of shitty things.
Very few. My home internet is adblocked with multiple layers. I don’t frequent ad-filled social media. I don’t watch TV much. Probably the most ads I’d get are if I’m driving, then I’ll get billboards and the like.

Now with the Land of No Consequences and leashes becoming meaningless these leeches are free to buy and pillage as they see fit. The housing market is gonna be destroyed next, wait until they start selling the homes off to shell companies and taking loans to pay for the deteriorating properties and property taxes (which trump has floated getting rid of to keep these hoarders afloat even longer).

I live in an area with a lot of aggressive and shitty drivers. I would trigger any number of negative statistics several times a day thanks to it just being how it is to drive around here. But I have an old ‘11 car that doesn’t tattle on me, so it isn’t a problem.
