For sure if you are already planning a hardware change, but but with the state of the world, using what you have is the only option for a lot of folks.
One of the great things about Linux is choice. I try not to discourage options, even if it is not my preference
I’m guessing it’s like MacOS where if it’s a game not on Steam then you’re shit out of luck if there isn’t a Linux specific version?

I disagree with colournoun. Nvidia is not complex, you just have to find distros that work better with it. I us pop_OS with a 2080 and have had zero issues. They have an Nvidia specific install option and it is super easy to install and use.
Your initial comment was why do they need to exist, not just that you don’t need one. That’s great you like your setup and it works for you. olive_tips point was that they exist because other people like them and use them.
On a personal note, I have had my Kindle for years and don’t want or need a tablet. The battery still lasts weeks, and it is jail broken so I can easily transfer DRM free books from calibre. I have not held an iPad mini, but my Kindle is lighter than any other device I have held, and fits in my pocket.
