Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Probability that the next steam deck is arm based?
6·23 days agoI’ve been wondering this too since the announcement of the frame. The ARM compatibility layer was the most exciting bit of the presentation for me. As much as I love my Deck I most certainly won’t be getting a Deck 2 in the future because what I need more in order to truly enjoy handheld gaming, for these aging eyes of mine, is a larger screen, something like 11+ inches. And it’s clear to me that those sizes can’t be achieved in the form factor of a Deck, you need something like a thick tablet with detachable controllers to do so.
I think the huge success of the Deck is because the form factor and the ability to play AAA PC games in said form factor, even if is on low settings or 30FPS. From the research I’ve done while buying a tablet for both content consumption and gaming is clear to me that ARM is still not up to that task yet but it is close enough. Next year’s Snapdragon elite 2 is tipped to be 30-404% faster and with a good compatibility layer and better drivers it could be a very viable option for handheld gaming.
I think that is not a matter of choice between x86 or ARM. Valve partnership with AMD goes deep and I think they will continue using both platforms for the foreseeable future and even possible but unlikely that at some point we got a base Deck with ARM and a pro model with x86.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Deck Client Update: Display-Off Downloads
3·1 month agoIt’s ok, much happier from learning new plugins :)
TabMaster sounds really cool, I don’t like much the default tabs so might give a try. I’m looking into syncing between Deck and PC for emulation and games that don’t support steam cloud with Syncthing and I think I’m going to need Proton tricks, I think that it’s called so, to help me with the save paths.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Deck Client Update: Display-Off Downloads
11·1 month agoSome useful plugins: the one that lets you customize the theme on your deck, the one that allows you to scrap the covers for your non steam games right in gaming mode UI. Also the one that shows proton DB badges on your games and the other that let you manage your proton version. There is a bunch of other utilities in there for a lot of other use cases.

17·1 month agoGreat! I’ve been staying out of beta lately because of how it breaks Decky more than I’m willing to fix it. And this new feature is a nice one to have.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Meta] This community has been renamed to Steam Hardware to include the newly annouced Steam Machine and Steam Frame
1·1 month agoI’m not an expert on the whole Fediverse thing. I use Voyager on iPad since it is a clone of Apollo that I used back with Reddit, and I use Boost on my phone since I too used Boost for Reddit. I’m a simple man :)
In Boost it shows as Seam hardware and in Voyager as Steam deck. It’s fine with me since I know what’s going on. May it be a deal for someone that doesn’t know? I don’t think so, but who knows.

3·1 month agoMaybe it needs some more time to propagate. As long as I don’t need to do anything on my side is ok :)

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Discussion] Should this community also cover the Steam Machine and/or Steam Frame?
21·1 month agoDefinitely yes, they all run Steam OS and all 3 device are very interchangeable in what they offer. Plus there’s not that much people to properly support 3 different communities.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Valve announces three new products: the Steam Frame, Steam Machine and Steam ControllerEnglish
8·1 month agoController is a day one buy for me probably, although I don’t like the charging solution much, might wait for a proper dock, first or third party.
I might bite the bullet with the headset too. Haven’t got into VR since Oculus DK2 and I’m itching for it again.

Android@lemdro.id•Tablet market stalls because there’s not much new to buyEnglish
0·1 month agoThat is what I’m looking for. A tablet that can use both for content consumption, via a full desktop browser experience, and for gaming, via steam, gog and epic. Also that can be used as a makeshift laptop on a pinch.

2·2 months agoMy three all time favs are Guacamelee 1 and 2 and Shadow Complex. The combat and traversal of the formers is so much fun. And the settings and 2.5D if the later are so cool. Also enjoyed Castlevania symphony of the night and hollow knight quite a bit, albeit the traversal in this game is so so.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Discussion] What are you playing on your Deck? - November 2025
1·2 months agoWell, I’m four hours in, that should be plenty of time for a game to be good at that point. I’ve played many metroidvanias that are far better than this game and all those were great from minute one. Guess this game isn’t for me :)
I still have Samus Return on my 3Ds, hope the emmi thing isn’t a staple of the series, will check it out in the future.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Discussion] What are you playing on your Deck? - November 2025
2·2 months agoMy biggest complaint is that the emmi zones are annoying and, time-wise are about two thirds of the game. And honestly the zones in between doesn’t feel great either and the three bosses I found so far are kinda repetitive too.

5·2 months agoPlaying Metroid Dread right now, not having much fun though. Might quit and start play Ratchet and clank a rift apart tomorrow if things doesn’t get any better.
