Worked at Lowe’s last year. No AI is going to replace what any of us were doing except maybe making the scheduling lady’s life easier, but we would still need her.

People still need to buy household goods, need advice from experts, need help and labor in 1,000 ways that AI cannot replace.

Until we have relatively inexpensive, multipurpose robots, much of this talk is moot. Humans are the AR-15s of the animal kingdom. Not the best at anything, weak in many ways, but we’re reliable, tough and suited for many roles. I cannot imagine an AI powered robot that could work all the tasks I was faced with.

Gates is 1,000 miles beyond worrying about his “paycheck”. You’re thinking in terms of how you and I regard money. Gates don’t give a fuck. He’s really wants to do the right thing and leave a solid legacy. Call him greedy, and he certainly was in the day, but he’s no longer concerned with personal enrichment.

For example; only ad I see is the occasional sentence on my lock screen, “You should try $whatever!” That blurb isn’t on my radar. But to hear lemmy tell it, I’m overrun with ads at every turn.

I’m told Windows is constantly fucking up and updates are crippling. This machine was originally Windows 10 and has been through 3 machines, same SSD, did nothing but swap it. No issues. At all.

On a personal level, skipping updates is fine. As a sysadmin, I’m updating the fleet a week after I scan the news for unintended fuck ups.

I was in DevOps, didn’t hardly touch AWS, but I can’t see how AI could possibly judge IAM permission errors.

My DNS is a Lightsail instance out west, no issue.
