the link points to an .avif no idea what that is but i suspect that’s the reason. not sure what the source file type was but i guess support is better for png,jpg.

i think if you upload it normally through the lemmy interface it also converts the image.

Im eyeing Zig for a long time also as the core developers behind it seem to be really cool and drama free. Which, i know, is no argument for an programming language but cool non the less. Just hope the language itself is also cool to work with.

Also, at least for something like this feels like hack more than anything. Maybe its not, i did not look inside the code. But just from outside I would assume that would break with every GIMP release and even if not it would never feel “right”.
