I suspect that you’ll have a very hard time finding a player that has a native HDMI port, and a USB-C port is probably out of the question with a typical player. I think the other commenters are probably on the right track with using either a console (unconnected to the internet) or an drive for a PC. You may also be able to find a standalone blu-ray player with these features, but I think the USB-C connectors are unlikely. Just make sure that whatever you find, you keep it disconnected from your network (unless you use a PC) if you want privacy.

It’ll never be a BBS to me without door games and screechy modem connecting sounds.

I will once I am in possession of the free time to do maintenance on my home boxes. It’s been on my weekend to do list for many weeks, but it keeps getting taken over by general life stuff. Hopefully this weekend it will finally be time.
Yep, dozens of us! (well, I don’t run 7.8 yet)

4·24 days agoBanking apps are highly variable, many work, many don’t. I have also heard that there are some required 2FA apps used some some European banks that currently don’t work. I don’t use any of these, so it hasn’t been an issue, but I just wanted to make sure the OP knew to be on the lookout.

4·24 days agoThere are definitely some things that do not work with GrapheneOS, though most haven’t affected me as I don’t use them (like banking apps).
- A lot of banking apps don’t work, especially from some European banks. I believe there is a fairly well updated list available online.
- Android Auto can be made to work, but it’s quirky and you have to fiddle with quite a few settings and possibly give up a fair amount of privacy to get some things going (like navigation). I’m still fighting with this.
- Many apps will initially not work until you figure out what permissions they actually need and which they can bend on.
I still personally think it is worth it, but I can only speak for myself.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft is plugging more holes that let you use Windows 11 without an online accountEnglish
4·1 month agoThey actually did a lot of mess with Pro as well. There has been a “watering down” of Pro since Windows 10 to make sure that they can still do their anticonsumer crap to users. I imagine they also are trying to push businesses to get Enterprise instead of picking up relatively easy/inexpensive Pro licenses.
I figured that the point of using a dumb phone would be that there hopefully wouldn’t be meaningful accounts, information, and communication to really get at. Regular calls and SMS were already fair game, and there is basically nothing else on there. Nothing for evil megacorps to siphon up, no social media, not much of anything.

0·2 months agoGoogle can get fucked. I feel like there will be a nontrivial market for de-googled or older and unlocked Android phones after this. If they manage to kill off custom roms with their previous AOSP rug pull I’ll go back to using a (subpar) Linux phone or maybe even one of those cheap flip phones.
I tried it and it was good, but not worth the money to me. Since that time, everything has been going more and more to shit, so while I am not there yet, everything else could eventually get shitty enough that I will maybe then be good to pay monthly for a search engine.
