Context: I’m running linux mint 22.2 Cinnamon as a HTPC for music and movies on the Living room TV. I’m using Plex, Roon and Netflix through a browser, plugged into a AVR with surround sound via HDMI.

I wanted to get Camilla DSP going for convolution filters and even out the frequency response of my poor quality speakers. I followed the instructions, tinkered, tried every possible combination of options, spoke to the guy who made Camilla DSP and still no luck. After editing pipewire and alsa conf files galore, remaping channels from 5.1 to 3.1 because I have no surrounds anymore and countless other changes, playing with sinks I’ve given up. I just want basic 5.1 sound without camilla.

My question to the Lemmy Linux braintrust, is short of reinstalling linux entirely, is there a way to just reinstall the sound subsystems like all the Alsa and Pipewire defaults? I can’t remember all the config files I changed.

Is there anything to be done before I nuke the system and start from scratch with a fresh install?
