That is not equivalent to a web directory and is a function that can already be effectively done with duckduckgo and startpage.

More maintainers should charge for iso’s. Nobody’s gonna compile them themselves or trust “pirated” iso’s. It’s a real genius move from Zorin.

Now the KDE Discover store on Kubuntu needs to let me say no when an app asks for “Full Access: Can Access Everything on your System”. It’s a bloody text editor, what access could it possibly need.

That feature of Kagi is so awesome and I wish other search engines would implement it.

I’m gonna comment on my personal experience with a few search engines.

• Startpage I stopped using because, and it took me a while to notice this, the searches aren’t included in the URL. This means if I want to bookmark a startpage search for later or find a startpage search in my browser history I can’t. This is a dealbreaker for me.
• Qwant didn’t have advanced search tools of any kind, and it also didn’t work in Singapore (where I occasionally set my VPN to).
• Mojeek … is not ready yet.
• Kagi I tried for a bit but I’m not paying a subscription to an American company for search.

Ultimately I ended back up on Duckduckgo. I think perhaps we should go back to web directories instead of search engines.

I still have no idea what secure-boot really does and this was me turning the metaphorical secure-boot dial while checking the crowd to see whether they’ll start gasping in horror.

But secure-boot is so tedious to deal with.

Thank you, that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. Wasn’t bundled with Kubuntu (or maybe it was but I uninstalled it because I thought it was Wordpad) and didn’t come up when searching for it in the Discover app, but after going to the official site and opening a link in the Discover app I got it installed.

Now to look up how to clean up the start menu so searching for a text editor doesn’t give me the uninstalled Mousepad or it’s separate settings app (I did it with a 5 second duckduckgo search).

Oh, and I also hate that they’re actively undermining of theming.

I hate GNOME because it feels like an iPhone.

I don’t know much about what Ubuntu is doing but it surely can’t be that bad.

Mint Cinnamon. Just make sure to change the background before she sees it. The first impression is god awful with that stock background.

I think basically all the default backgrounds aren’t great. There are a few passable ones but that’s it.

I’m on KDE as a former Windows and Mint user and it’s really annoying. Especially the text editor Kate. All the hotkeys are different than Windows/Mint, there’s no notepad equivalent and only a notepad++ equivalent, the GNOME text editor doesn’t match the theming, and I had to settle on Mousepad for my replacement.

I had to do a lot of customization to get the system to behave like Windows, particularly the panel. Maybe with ZorinOS it’s better.
