I guess I don’t really have a reason to access my phone via my computer. Everything I use has a desktop interface — Signal, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, my radio app, my podcasts app, Spotify, etc.

You mean the issue where the window doesn’t get focused after opening the game via Steam Link? I haven’t, I’ve never used Matrix before, actually. Wouldn’t GitHub be a viable communication platform for stuff like that?

I’m here on Arch btw for my main gaming and work rig (same desktop PC), and gaming works beautifully, running Niri. I love Niri for gaming, because of how fast I can switch side to side between discord, browser, the game, etc. No weird “alt-tabbing” business. The most gaming friendly compositor I’ve come across.

The only thing with Niri seems to be that when I’m running Steam Link, the opened game doesn’t seem to get focus, which is a bit wonky. I have to go over from my TV to the PC and focus the game window. 😄 But otherwise great, if I’m by the PC itself. 👌

What do you use it for? I have my phone sitting on a small holder/stand next to my screen both at home and at work. What’s your use case, if you don’t mind sharing?

Yeah I had that recommended to me enough times that I’m definitely going to try it. TIDAL has also been mentioned but some dude said it has funding roots in war and genocide support. We’ll see if Qobuz is good. I did notice the Qobuz app keeps wanting to run in the background, even though I haven’t even logged into the app (I don’t even have an account yet). I had to go into Android settings to disable it running in the background. Closing it manually over and over again didn’t seem to give it any sort of hint…

But it came with a $2 price hike for Spotify Duo, where I live. Shit sucks. I should look into alternatives anyway, the Spotify car app is so trash.

I won’t do any of this stuff, mostly because I don’t care enough to test it, and I soft-refuse to get this to work unless it’s in a way the app developers intended. I don’t know why I have this principle. The shit needs to work without workarounds, otherwise it’s bad design. Kind of?

I mean, they do that too. Through radio and television. But extra info and small announcements would be nice to see on something other than X. I didn’t say Mastodon because that would be a very small audience, but I suggested Bluesky at least.

I tried every way I could find but every path I took in the setup process of Molly told me to scan a QR code, but how tf do I scan a QR code with my phone, that is shown on my phone’s screen. So I gave up. I really tried to make Molly a linked device. 🤷‍♂️ If anybody has the exact process for this, please hit me with a reply. Would love to try Molly on the side of Signal proper, without losing Signal as the main app/device.

Do you think this software might work with Bottles or similar Windows emulating platforms? Could be worth a shot to be rid of Windows entirely.
